Longevity Notes – Toward Lasting Vitality

Feb 7, 2026

I was recently invited to speak about detox, but in the middle of winter it didn’t feel quite right. Detox on its own is never the goal. In Ayurveda, detoxification is only meaningful when it creates the ground for regeneration, rejuvenation, and a longer, more satisfying life.

So I asked to shift the theme of the interview to longevity.

The science of longevity in Ayurveda is Rasayana, Which literally means the path of nourishment.

How you sleep, eat, work, rest, and relate to others directly shapes both physical and mental health. When digestion is weakened through irregular habits or unsuitable food for your personal constitutopn (nature), metabolic toxicity, known as ama, accumulates. This is understood as the root of most imbalance, mentally and physically.

At the heart of longevity is Ojas. To simplify it, Ojas is immunity and vitality. It is the inner reserve that keeps us resilient physically, mentally, and emotionally. Ojas is formed from everything we take in: food, water, breath, sensory impressions, and life experiences. It is slow to build and very easy to deplete. Chronic stress, unresolved emotional patterns such as fear, anger, resentment, and prolonged anxiety keep the nervous system in survival mode and gradually erode vitality. When Ojas is strong, recovery is easier and life feels more stable. When it is low, even small stressors can feel overwhelming.

It’s not about resisting ageing, but about sustaining strength, clarity, and purpose over time. When we live in alignment with our values and responsibilities, there is less inner conflict and less energy leakage. This protects vitality far more than chasing youth.

As many of you know, we are now preparing the Longevity Retreat Programme in collaboration with Vaidyagrama, one of the leading traditional Ayurvedic healing villages in India. The vision is to create a stable, authentic Rasayana field in the UK twice a year, where people can experience deep, lasting regulation rather than another wellness trend. The programmes are offered in five to ten-day formats, designed to support long-term stability, not short-term fixes.
