Do You Need Therapy—Or Are You Just Inflamed?

Aug 18, 2025

A 2025 study found that for some, therapy strengthens painful memory loops, keeping people stuck in a past they pathologise. Meanwhile, research from the University of North Texas shows that recalling positive memories can reduce PTSD symptoms.

Rather than digging endlessly into wounds.

Ayurveda’s approach to mental health begins with a focus on diet and lifestyle. If that doesn’t work, we recommend Panchakarma treatment (deep detox and rejuvenation program, usually 21 days) to eliminate inflammation in the body, becase an inflamed body is an inflamed mind. And along with that, we train the mind for willpower to discern what memories to allow to linger and what not.

We always start with the body.

Anxiety, brain fog, sadness—these aren’t always psychological. Often, they’re biological. Inflammation, allergies,  poor digestion, low vitamin B, endocrine and gut imbalance. Ayurveda teaches that mental disturbances can originate in the body, and digestion is the starting point.

A few months back, a client told me she was low energetically and her mind was racing with negativity. We looked at her diet, arranged her sleep pattern and exercise plan according to her hormonal cycle, we took away some things that could burden her digestion, added some prayers and mindset practices, and she was good within a few days.

Ayurveda is simple: when the gut is strong, the mind is steady. When Agni, your digestive fire, is weak, you lose clarity, sleep, mood, and resilience.

To support digestion and mental clarity:

  • Eat for your constitution
  • Add fibre-rich, grounding foods
  • Use small amounts of fermented foods
  • Keep regular meals and bedtimes
  • Walk daily
  • Connect to what brings you alive
